Last time, (see part three of the five books within the Book of Psalms), where we studied Ps. 73 – 89, which concerned themselves with how God’s holiness must be factored within our worship of Jehovah God.
Book four: (Psalms 90 – 106)
These deal with how we must embrace the love of God for us, which He exhibits when He covers us with His ‘Godly corrections’. That is, His responses when we have fallen astray from the path Jehovah lays out for all His children. Our gratitude for this must manifest in our worship:
The first Psalm in this series was written by Moses himself, under the direction of the Holy Spirit. And in it, God sets the tone of why we must get right with Him and stay that way:
Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Ps. 90:12 NLT
Our lives are but a blink of an eye compared with eternity. We don’t have time to stray from God. His corrections are an imperative, to return us to His good graces and keep us there, before Christ’s unannounced return.
It is living in God’s ways that keeps us surrounded by His impenetrable protection:
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand]. Ps. 91:1 AMP
His faithfulness is a shield and a wall. You will not be afraid of the terror of night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction (sudden death) that lays waste at noon.
A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but danger will not come near you. Ps. 91:4 – 7. AMP
Ultimately, God will cover you for eternity, because you love Him:
“Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him; I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never].
“He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. “With a long life I will satisfy him and I will let him see My salvation.” Ps. 91:14 – 16. AMP
There is a potential bifurcation in everybody’s path. It wildly behooves us to choose our Creator over the ways of the world:
Your enemies, Lord, will surely perish; all evildoers will be scattered. Ps. 92:9 NLT
But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. Ps. 92:12, 13. NLT
And now we get to our central theme – the blessings of Jehovah’s discipline:
Blessed [with wisdom and prosperity] is the man whom You discipline and instruct, O Lord, and whom You teach from Your law, that You may grant him [power to calm himself and find] peace in the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked and ungodly.
For the Lord will not abandon His people, nor will He abandon His inheritance. Ps. 94:12 – 14. AMP
You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked. Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right.
May all who are godly rejoice in the Lord and praise his holy name! Ps. 97:10 – 12. NLT
One of the greatest things about our God is His faithfulness. You can always count on His promises:
… you are always the same; you will live forever. The children of your people will live in security. Their children’s children will thrive in your presence.” Ps. 102:27, 28. NLT
And when we can back ourselves up, set the world aside, and look at all of what our Father does for us, we can see the Grand Cornucopia He lays at our feet:
Bless and affectionately praise the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget any of His benefits; who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases; who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you [lavishly] with lovingkindness and tender mercy; who satisfies your years with good things… Ps. 103:2 – 5. AMP
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in compassion and lovingkindness. Ps. 103:8 AMP
He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.
For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. Ps.103:10 – 12. NLT
What a God we have!! See you next time!
Goodnight and God bless.
